Overview: IBTCI is seeking a Research Assistant for the USAID Amazon Knowledge Learning Platform Activity. The purpose of the activity is to support the adaptive management of programs under USAID’s Amazon Vision and improve knowledge and evidence across USAID programming for the conservation of Amazon biodiversity in the face of climate change impacts and other threats.  This position is contingent upon award.


Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support all team members.
  • Conduct desk research on topics related to climate change, gender, biodiversity, indigenous peoples, and/or extractive industries throughout the Amazon region.
  • Gather evaluation documentation from team members.
  • Format and review reports for team members.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of biodiversity and natural resources, climate change, infrastructure, and extractive industries is preferred.
  • Research experience in data analyses.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Previous experience with formatting reports and other professional documents.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Amazon region preferred
  • Familiarity with MS Word suite and products.


Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience assisting international donor projects and teams.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish required.


Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Global Affairs, International Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, or a related field is required. Master’s degree in preferred.

Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment, with some time spent in the field.

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Physical Requirements:  This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Travel:  International travel may be required.
