Overview: IBTCI is currently seeking a qualified Communications Manager for an upcoming Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) project in South Sudan, funded by USAID. This a full time, key position based in Juba, South Sudan. This project will provide a range of monitoring and evaluation technical assistance to USAID South Sudan’s portfolio of programs.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:  

  • Facilitate information sharing and outreach and communications policies and procedures for the activity, as well as USAID/South Sudan as requested.
  • Review and edit all written and communications products, ensuring that products are of publishable quality and tailored to the appropriate audiences.
  • Advise on dissemination methods for products to ensure that information reaches the appropriate audiences most effectively.
  • Explore and develop means of effectively communicating complex information, whether generated by the activity or other partners, and making it easily understood.
  • Prepare press releases, produce public information and publicity materials, and provide editorial quality control.
  • Aggregate information across USAID/South Sudan projects in order to help the Mission present activities, success stories, and results.
  • Provide support to Implementing Partner (IP) organizations to familiarize them with USAID writing style standards and content format to generate relevant information for success stories.
  • Work with IP organizations to ensure photo and video content is incorporated into their reporting, and ensure that project photos and videos are of high quality and presents project outcomes and successes.
  • Upon request, work with IPs, US Government Stakeholders, and local South Sudanese Government Counterparts to support public events surrounding USAID/South Sudan activities.
  • Monitor local, regional and international media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications roles.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with USAID or other donor-funded projects required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work quickly and independently.
  • Experience in creating high-quality reports and presentations required.
  • Oral and written fluency in English required.
  • Excellent skills and demonstrated experience in development of communications products, preferably in international development.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing or revising a communications strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, specifically in the creation of infographics.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-country and multi-cultural setting as demonstrated by past experience.
  • Experience supporting development programming in conflict contexts preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to be mobile and agile at a moment’s notice in case of an emergency required.
  • Ability and willingness to work for extended periods in insecure and diverse environments.
  • Ability and willingness to safely enter and exit a larger, armored SUV vehicle that is several feet off the ground without assistance, while wearing body armor and/or a heavy flak jacket.
  • In case of an emergency situation, must be able and willing to “duck and seek cover”, which may require the individual to exit the vehicle, unaided, and hurriedly seek shelter elsewhere, as needed, in the event of a roadside emergency.

 

Education:  

Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, public administration, political science, international relations, conflict resolution and peacebuilding or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Working Environment:  Work is typically performed in an office environment.

 

Physical Requirements:  This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Travel: Local travel may be required.

 

Work Authorization:  Candidate must be authorized to work in South Sudan
